Track Reviews - Some Essential New Releases

From Top to Bottom Left to Right: Divorce, Varamenia, Marvins Revenge, Makeshift Art Bar, Lost Lyra, Enabling Behaviour

Eat My Words - Divorce

The fantastic Nottingham 4 piece return with their 3rd single from their upcoming EP "Heady Metal" and this one is there country-est yet! Eat My Words showcases all of Divorce's strenghs with a verse ripped straight from a divorcé's journal, a fabulous display of harmony which we're known to expect from Felix and Tiger and a Massive chorus that hits like a truck. Got the pleasure of seeing them at Swn Festival and it's completely reinforced my belief that Divorce are one of the most exciting bands in the country.

Real Panic - Vaermina

South London Group Vaermina have ditched their Electironic DIY sound and have transformed into a complete rock collective. Carying over all of the mannerism's they learnt from their electornic days, their new single Real Panic reminds me of a 2000s video game boss fight as Vaermina don't waste anytime hitting you with heavy guitars like a sucker punch, the delivery of the lyrics feels like the back and forth dialogue in the midst of chaos and the synth is the cherry on top with melodic relief to heighten the atmosphere of this song. It comes of their upcoming Mini Album Tantrum out on November 24th which has more of the same sound from the rascalous Vaermina.

Jack (Let Go of the Door) - Marvin's Revenge

Another heavy one as Marvin's Revenge hit us with Jack (Let Go of the Door) off of their upcoming EP "VR Porn" which drops this coming tuesday (November 6th). There are some hard rock tracks where you can almost smell the sweat of the mosh pit ands you can feel some 6'4 30 year old with a buzzcut getting shoved into you and this track completely radiates that experience. The Derby trio are taking no prisoners with a gutwrenching guitar riff supported by a mucky bass line and a narrator to put all these sounds into words. This band is dope and their EP is more of the same chaos. Keep an eye out for them!

Inertia - Makeshift Art Bar

Finally after months of anticipation, the first band I ever interviewed Makeshift Art Bar released their debut single Inertia and it exceeded all of my high expectations. I don't want to spoil much of this song because I think its best enjoyed going into it completely blind but I will say that the way this builds and builds leading up to the outro is just fantastic. Inertia is one of the best grunge tracks of the year and with a range of support dates including Post Punk giants Deadletter, Makeshift Art Bar are soon to be a Noise Rock household name.

Pastel Colours - Lost Lyra

Here's a cool find, Lost Lyra are a Dream Pop quartet based in London - Oxford and their debut single Pastel Colours released on Big Richard Records this week. This track is a beautiful poem carefully coloured in by a shoegaze guitar parts, ambient vocal harmonies, a bassline that leads you across the track and and some rhythmically impressive drumming. Sonically, this is one of best tracks I've heard in a while which is big factor in making this song incredibly addictive. Since its release on Wednesday It's been my most listened to song of the week! Im excited to hear more from this fantasically whimsical band.

And God Said... - Enabling Behaviour

And finally, Cardiff based Post Punk rockers Enabling Behaviour release And God Said. This 3 minute track is the latest addition to Enabling Behaviours expanded catalogue of Fun post punk tracks. The tambourine along with the Britpop-esc guitar gives And God Said a anthem like feel and the the unsettling vocals placed ontop creates an ironically devilish tone. This band and their music is easily likeable and I reccomend you give them a listen and try catch them live!
